Homework Guidelines
The Tempe Elementary School District's Governing Board policy on homework states that "Homework should be assigned consistent with the maturity, special needs, potential and achievement level of the individual student." Homework assignments are designed to specifically address objectives of the instructional program as well as to develop responsibility for actively pursuing knowledge without immediate supervision outside the classroom. Administrators and teachers developed the following homework guidelines:

| 2nd | 20 min. | 30 min. |
| 3rd | 30 min. | 40 min. |
| 4th | 35 min. | 45 min. |
| 5th | 40 min. | 50 min. |
| 6th | 45 min. | 60 min. |
| 7th & 8th | 60 min. | 80 min. |
Homework:
• is used for practice of daily skills.
• is assigned 4 days per week, in addition to work not completed in class.
• includes some form of reading every night.
• is not to be used as a punishment for not completing work.
